Contrary to Tahiti which progressively looks like any occidental setting at least in the town of Papeete, the other Leeward Islands cultivate the charm which gave birth to tourists interest. Rich with a multitude of treasures, Taha'a was once an object of rivalry between the kings of Bora Bora and Raiatea during the 18th and 19th centuries. Numerous archaeological sites attest this part of history. Over 40 sites and 100 structures, sometimes swallowed up by the blue lagoon, have so far been identified on the island.

Taha'a is often called the « Vanilla Island ». It is effectively responsible for 70% of Polynesia's vanilla production, estimated at 25 tons a year. The precious vanilla orchid grows under the humid shade of Taha'a's tropical forest. Cultivated and married by men, the divine flower becomes fruit. After being dried and rubbed, the fruit then releases its incredible liquorice-flavoured perfume. The black gold of Polynesia is born, and has now acquired its worldwide reputation.

The place :

Taha'a, with the rich aroma of vanilla lingering in the air, offers a glimpse of the traditional, tranquil life of the Tahitians. The flower-shaped island's simple beauty is charmed by soft mountain shapes and surrounded by tiny motu with bright sand beaches. In the fertile valleys cutting within the island, local farmers grow watermelon, vanilla, and copra.

Taha′a offers in a way an image of heaven like the famous French painter Paul Gauguin let us imagine through his pictures of the Marquesas Islands. The very Polynesian gentle pleasures of life on an island where the trade winds run freely, 230 kilometres west of Tahiti are not a legend told by ancient discoverers.

Hotel "Taha'a Private Island & Spa"

Opened since July 2002, this resort is designed to be the most exclusive resort in French Polynesia. Superbly located on Motu Tautau on the coral reef, the resort faces the island of Taha'a on the lagoon side and offers an unsurpassed view on Bora Bora Island on the ocean side.
This traditional Polynesian style hotel is 5 minutes by boat from main island of Taha'a and 35 min by boat from Raiatea Island. The resort offers 48 Over Water Suites & 12 Beach Suites more than a hundred square meters in size.

Bungalows are fitted with private patio and tropical gardens, private swimming pool (beach villas), spacious lounge and terrace, private deck with direct access to the lagoon (over water bungalows), ceiling fan, air-conditioning, coffee/tea facilities, mini bar, hair dryer, make up mirror, safety box, television, CD player and IDD telephone.

They offer either a king-size bed or twin beds.
Beach villas are surrounded by tropical gardens and surrounded by rock walls offering complete privacy.
